Brighter Futures

Mission Statement

“We are passionately committed to create and provide a safe and caring place where we help each child to discover their GOD-given talents and their unique personal value. We will encourage every child, each day, to help them grow into a confident young adult who is ready to take their place in the world and make their meaningful contributions to their community.”

The Brighter Futures Foundation was founded in March 2017 by Dr. Suzanne Salichs and Mr. John W. Jones. The original purpose of the organization was to provide a free Christian day program consisting of literacy, fitness, recreation, nutrition, and other educational activities for the children of Wagoner, Oklahoma.

The City of Wagoner has a 24% poverty rate coupled with other discerning socioeconomic data. Wagoner Public Schools operate on a 4-day school week – Tuesday through Friday. Our goal is to complement and enhance our local schools to provide the best possible educational outcomes for the children and families of our community. Brighter Futures is the only day program operating on Mondays in Wagoner.

In August 2017, the Brighter Futures Foundation was offered the opportunity to move to a vacant public school. That same month, the Brighter Futures Foundation entered into a five-year agreement with the Wagoner Public Schools who own the building and property. The Brighter Futures Foundation uses the center at no cost for rent due to the agreement with Wagoner Public Schools. However, the Brighter Futures Foundation provides in-kind volunteer hours and is responsible for all building and property maintenance, supplies, and operations.

To date, we have served 250 school-aged children and their families. Over 100 volunteers have provided over 20,000 hours of their time and talents to serving the children and families at the center.

“Each of us is looked at as a unique person, a person created by God. Each of us is seen as a being created in love and for love. Each of us is seen as a personality who isn’t defined by our mistakes and sins or by other people’s wishes and fantasies but by God’s love for us, free to respond to His creative Word to us.“Life isn’t, at its essence, an awful problem to be solved, but a playful adventure to be lived. The task of the Gospel isn’t to burden us with guilt but to free us with grace.” ~Eugene H. Peterson
